Troop 62 Menu Planning Policies
 

On every troop outing, the goal is for each patrol to be responsible for its sustenance, and for each scout to be provided with balanced, tasty meals at the appropriate time.

Menu requirements depend on whether the campout begins on Friday night or Saturday morning.

Monthly campouts with a Saturday morning departure.

1. Saturday
. Lunch - Sack lunch from home. No soft drinks or candy meals.
. Dinner - Fully cooked on the campout. Must include entree, vegetable, bread and dessert.

2. Sunday
. Breakfast - Fully cooked from scratch.
. Lunch - Suggest a cold buffet type or Snacks for the trip home.

3. Maximum Meal Costs
. Patrol members and guests - $8.00 maximum each.

Monthly campouts Friday evening departure campouts.

1. Friday
. Dinner - sack lunch from home. No soft drinks or candy meals.
. Snacks for campfire.

2. Saturday
. Breakfast - Fully cooked from scratch.
. Lunch - Suggest a cold buffet type.
. Dinner - Fully cooked on the campout. Must include entree, vegetable, bread and dessert.

3. Sunday
. Breakfast - Fully cooked from scratch.
. Lunch - Suggest a cold buffet type or Snacks for the trip home.

4. Maximum Meal Costs
. Patrol members and guests - $8.50 maximum each.

Menu Requirements

1. Menu planned at the third meeting before the campout.

2. Menu plan must be approved by the SPL and scoutmaster.

3. All meals will correspond to the four basic food groups.

4. Make sure meals are planned to provide sufficient food for each member of the patrol.

5. Meals must be fully prepared at the campout.

6. No hot dog-type or grilled hamburger meals.

7. No soft drinks as either a source of hydration or nutrition at all troop sponsored outing. Dehydration is a major concern due to the heat, low humidity, and physical activity at outings. Soft drinks that are high in sugar and sodium tend to exacerbate dehydration.

8. Whenever possible, food preparation should be directed toward fulfilling the requirements of the cooking merit badge.

9. Recipes should come from the Scout Field Book, the Boy Scout Handbook, or other approved cookbook.

10. A sample of all meals will be taste tested by a designated adult.

11. Guests should be included in planning.

12. Money for the campout should be turned into the patrol leader or patrol member in charge for purchasing the food at the Monday meeting prior to the outing.

13. Any scout canceling after the Monday prior to the campout will be responsible for his portion of the food costs.
